What type of wood Birch, Pine, maple gives out the best warmth
Variables
Independent Variable: Pine,maple,Birch
Dependent Variable: Fire, heat of day
Variables That Need To Be Controlled: Heat of fire
Hypothesis
I predict that the fire wood, called pine, would give out the best heat other than Birch and Maple
Graph of Hypothesis
General Plan
Materials list
Fireplace lighter pine Birch maple Heat probe
Detailed Procedure
1) First put x amount of wood in the fire place. 2) Then get your lighter and light the twigs under the wood 3) Let your fire burn for 20 minutes the get the heat probe and get the temp of the fire. 4) Record the number in your data table. 5) Repeat all steps with each type of wood.

Background Research
Birch wood research
Birch firewood is pretty useful. There are several different species of birch and they are usually fast growing species. For the purpose of firewood, black birch and yellow birch are the best species to burn. White birch and grey birch are both average species.
Using fire and fireplace use
One of the most common mistakes people make is in burning wood that is not cured. Wood can have moisture content of up to 60%. Before the wood can actually burn, the moisture level has to drop low enough for the fibers to burn. Fires that use un-cured wood require a huge amount of heat to be used up in the evaporation of this moisture. This process absorbs much of the heat that would have been produced. It also results in a hard to start fire and a fire that puts off LOTS of extra smoke. A fire using cured firewood starts easy, puts of much more heat, and will not pump smoke all over your neighbors, or our planet. Firewood should be cut and split well in advance of the wood burning season. Split wood cures much faster than non-split wood.
Pine wood
Look for gray, or darkened, brittle wood that has a lot of cracks in the inner rings. Pine wood is found in woods near water. Some types of pine grow anywhere also. Pine wood has a drug in it that if you inhale too much of it you could get severely injured or could even

The purpose of my experiment was to figure out what type of firewood gives out the most heat. It took about three trials to get accurate data for my experiment. I tested Pine, Maple, and Birch wood in my experiment. I tested three trials and all of the woods came out really close to each other in temperature. I figured out that Pine wood gave out the most heat in my experiment.
Discussion
In my experiment mt hypothesis was that Pine wood would give out the most heat. My hypothesis was correct and pine wood stood out from the others. I found many different trends while testing. I noticed that at the beginning of the experiment the temperature started off really warm and near the end of the trials the wood became very hot. My experiment did go smoothly , but I did have some problems finding the wood in the middle of winter. Another problem was that i had some mistake trails when the snow put out the fire. If I could improve my experiment I would try cleaning out the fire place more so the snow would not put out the fire. I would also try to find the would faster than I did.
